St. Vincent's Special Needs Services of Trumbull held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 31 to begin construction on a new therapeutic pool located at the Feroleto Children's Development Center, 95 Merritt Boulevard.

This project will enable the organization to offer Aquatic Therapy as part of its physical and occupational therapy services. Aquatic therapy is a well established modality that helps to improve balance, range of motion, cognitive function, strength and flexibility. It is a popular choice for rehabilitation of children with neuromuscular disorders. Therapeutic exercises aided by the buoyancy and resistance of the water enable individuals to learn new movement patterns and become more independent in and out of the water.

The Feroleto Center is home to the agency’s school program and, according to Raymond Baldwin, President/CEO, “The new state-of-the-art pool gives us another means by which to provide highly specialized services to the children and adults in our care.”

Fundraising efforts have been ongoing since 2011. Some of the major contributors toward the project include: The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival, Mrs. Eleanor Feroleto, Mrs. Elizabeth Pfriem, Aquarion Water Company, and Mr. & Mrs. Charles Strauss, to name a few.
