EMS hosts 'Stop the Bleeding' emergency care class

Trumbull EMS is hosting a free community class on controlling serious bleeding November 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Trumbull Library.

According to EMS Director Joseph Laucella, trauma is the leading cause of death for males under age 45 and females under 35. Arterial bleeding can cause an adult to die of blood loss in minutes.

Through the program Stop the Bleed Until Help Arrives, EMS volunteers will instruct attendees on the importance of preparation, what to do in an emergency, and teach hands-on techniques for the use of dressings, bandages and tourniquets. Home bleeding control kits also will be available for purchase.
