Kathy Olson will be the featured speaker when the Long Hill Garden Club meets on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Trumbull Library. The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m., and the program will start at 12:45 p.m.
Olson’s presentation “Cultivating a Bee Friendly Garden,” will address how important these remarkable little insects are, the role they play in pollination, and how gardeners can help. Some topics covered include: The pollination process (day and night time pollinators); suitable plant selections to enhance nectar and pollen production; landscape mix and management; the caste system of the bee colony; what the inside of a hive looks like; and the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). No live bees are used, however, dead bees will be viewed along with charts and other visual materials. There will be a honey tasting at the end of the presentation.
