Principal Marc Guarino announced that the commencement exercises for the Trumbull High School Class of 2016 will take place in McDougall Stadium at 5:45 p.m.  Wednesday, June 15.

Exercises will be moved to the gymnasium in the event of dangerous weather.

The top students for the Class of 2016 are Valedictorian Christina DeBenedetto, and Salutatorian Rachel Tropp.

Christina is the daughter of Charles and Janet DeBenedetto of Firehouse Road.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, as well as Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics National Honor Society).  

As a member of the Eagle’s Eye, she contributed to the student publication’s success. In an extra-curricular capacity, Christina garnered all-FCIAC honorable honors as a member of Trumbull High School’s Varsity Tennis team and was voted captain for her senior year. She is an active member of the Pink Ribbon and SELF clubs, and she supported underclassmen through her involvement in Link Crew.

Christina was recently recognized with the Student Council Award for Academic Achievement in Science.  

She was the recipient of the prestigious Scholar Athlete Award and named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.  

She plans on attending UCLA in the fall.

Salutatorian

Rachel is the daughter of Jonathan and Lauren Tropp of Salem Road.

Rachel is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics National Honor Society), Tri-M Music Honor Society, Thespian Honor Society, as well as Quill and Scroll Honor Society.  

She was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Trumbull High School publication, Eagle’s Eye.

Additionally, Rachel was an instrumental member of Trumbull High School’s fall play production as well as the spring musical, How to Succeed In Business without Really Trying.  

Recently, Rachel was recognized as part of Trumbull’s We the People team, which finished 8th in the nation this past April.

She is the recipient of a Student Achievement Award for Dramaturgy (CT High School Music Theater Awards), Outstanding Achievement Awards in English and Social Studies, and the prestigious Dartmouth Book Award by the Fairfield County Dartmouth Alumni Club.  

Rachel was also named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and Governor’s Scholar Semifinalist.

Rachel plans on attending Harvard in the fall.
