Baby squirrels saved in Trumbull over Easter weekend

Trumbull resident Jennifer Iaccarino found two baby squirrels in a nest in the cupola of her Puritan Road home Saturday, March 26.

Connecticut Wildlife Rehabilitator Allison Matula assisted Iaccarino in caring for her furry friends until they were picked up on Easter Sunday after spending 24 hours in the warm Trumbull home.

Iaccarino said that the animals are now in Matula’s care after their mother abandoned them over the weekend.

“I was lucky I found her,” Iaccarino said of Matula.

The state-licensed rehabilitator told The Times Monday that the squirrels are doing very well and will be able to be released in approximately 12 weeks.
