Abuse victim turned author speaks at Women’s Center luncheon
Dave Pelzer will speak at the 16th annual Speaking of Women luncheon, the biggest annual fundraiser for The Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County.
The fundraiser is Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11:30 a.m., at the Waterview, 215 Roosevelt Drive, in Monroe.
Pelzer has dedicated his life to helping abuse victims. In addition to his motivational speeches, Pelzer is the author of seven books, five of which are New York Times bestsellers.
His first book, A Child Called It, recounts his life as a child, when he was beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother, who played tortuous games that left him near dead. It is the first of a trilogy that includes The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. His latest book, Moving Forward, suggests ways for readers to let go of their pasts and use negative experiences to make them stronger.
The Center will unveil news aimed at improving core services: turning victims of domestic violence and sexual assault into survivors in the six towns the center serves, including Monroe, Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Stratford and Trumbull.
Tickets are $175. For more information, visit cwfefc.org.
