The Great Pumpkin Classic, to be held this year on Sunday, Oct. 20, on the Trumbull High School campus, was started 23 years ago by Marty Schaivone, a now retired Biology teacher at THS. The event consists of a 5K run, a two mile Health Walk and a Kids Fun Run. It draws participants from throughout the region with all proceeds going to fund scholarships for high school seniors.

Many organizations have partnered over the years to make this event a reality. For the past five years, the THS Scholarship Foundation, the Trumbull Chamber of Commerce and the PTA have supplied the necessary volunteers to organize and run the event.

This year, for the first time, Trumbull Community Women is joining with the other organizations and will be taking over the operation of the two mile Health Walk. Proceeds from the entire event are split between these four organizations to fund their scholarship programs.

Sponsoring the walk is just one event in the volunteer group’s campaign to RElove Trumbull. REdiscover our town.
