Rapper 'Fat Joe' joins local non-profit at event this weekend
Tanisha Akinloye, radio host of “Changing Lives” on WDJZ 1530 AM, and CEO of the local non-profit, Empowering Through Beauty, Inc., is holding an empowerment event in collaboration with Grammy-nominated rapper and businessman Fat Joe.
The duo will headline "One Team One Dream," a networking and business extravaganza to be held at the Trumbull Marriot, 180 Hawley Lane, Nov. 9, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“Our goal is to change lives for the better,” Akinloye said. “We are focusing on our movement, One Team One Dream, to help inspire business minded individuals to create their own economy, become powerful leaders and build successful businesses.”
“Fat Joe” aka Joseph Antonio Cartagena is a successful, Grammy-nominated rapper who is now the president of the urban and Latino division of Market America, an Internet-based marketing company. In partnership with Akinloye, he offers event attendees motivational talks, a glimpse into the inspired, entrepreneurial mindset, business coaching and the opportunity to network and mingle with like-minded individuals in Connecticut.
“We're looking for movers and shakers and we want to inspire the urban communities we know and wake people up to the fabulous opportunities that are out there,” says Akinloye.
Attendees at the November event will enjoy makeover demonstrations in haircuts and clothes by top barber and businessman, Jay Major of Major League Barbershop, a fashion show by Vice Versa Showroom, and makeup sessions courtesy of some of Connecticut's most talented makeup artists. Presentations by both Akinloye and Fat Joe will be followed by networking and after party celebrations to the tunes of DJ Herman Ham and the Herman Ham Group. A portion of the evening’s proceeds go to support Akinloye’s non-profit, Empowering Through Beauty www.empoweringthroughbeauty.org
“People ask me how I am able to be as passionate and successful as I am with all my businesses,” Akinloye said. “At this event I am going to explain how I changed my own mindset when I started my business venture years ago, and how that has made me and others successful.”
