CT Classic Arts begins its fall programs with Alain Picard, a well-known artist of pastels and oil, who will demonstrate his talents in pastel. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Trumbull Library, Quality Street.

A frequent workshop instructor and demonstrator for art associations, schools, galleries and museums, he recently demonstrated at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Arts Club in New York City. He has garnered top awards from the Portrait Society of America, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, the Connecticut Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of America.

Picard is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America as well as the Connecticut Pastel Society where he served as President from 2012-2014. The Artist’s Magazine highlighted Picard as one of 20 contemporary artists “On the Rise and won the Best Portfolio Award at the 2009 Portrait Society of America Conference in Washington, D.C.

Picard’s first book, Pastel Basics, published in 2013 was followed by instructional DVD’s. Mastering Pastel, his newest book was released in April 2015. His work, books and DVD’s will be on display and available for sale.

Anyone interested in seeing monthly demonstrations by professional artists are welcome to join CCA. The program is open to the public with an entrance fee of $5. Refreshments will be served.
