Seeking Nominations for “Above and Beyond” Award
Special recognition for community organization, youth
TRUMBULL, Conn., March 12, 2013 – Trumbull Parents of Students with Learning Differences (TPSLD) is looking for nominations for its annual TPSLD “Above and Beyond” Award. The deadline is April 12.
The TPSLD “Above and Beyond” Award was established in 2007 to recognize and publicize outstanding achievements by a teacher, paraprofessional, school staff or administrator, student, therapists, coaches, bus drivers, community volunteer, parent or guardian, or any other individual working to improve the lives of children with learning differences and special needs.
In addition to being able to nominate an individual or group, there will be special recognition in the following categories:
Youth (under 18 years of age) – group or individual
Community organization - new to 2013, we included a new category exclusive for community organizations. This special category intends to highlight an external agency, non-profit, consultancy or community entity that has supported Trumbull students through their programs, initiatives or services.
In order to be eligible to receive the TPSLD “Above and Beyond” Award the nominee must live, work or volunteer in Trumbull, CT and have demonstrated outstanding achievement, sensitivity and compassion. The applicant can be nominated by someone working and/or volunteering in any aspect of special education or from the surrounding community.
“We look to find the unsung hero who every day or in a special way has helped a Trumbull student reach their full potential,“ said Kelly Sica, co-chair of TPSLD and the “Above and Beyond” Awards. “We know those stories are out there, we just want to bring them to light and share them with our community.”
Awards will be presented at the televised Trumbull Board of Education Meeting in June.
