The Pre-Movement Invention Project (Pre-MIP), a progressive dance education program of New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble (NJDTE), will expand into Connecticut with a new two-week intensive for dancers ages 13-18 this summer.

Pre-MIP’s forward-thinking training philosophy comes to Performing Arts Center of Connecticut (PACC) in Trumbull from July 18-29.

Faculty will include The Juilliard School’s Andra Corvino; in-demand freelance artist and MIP founding collaborator Troy Ogilvie; and Lea Ved and Zachary Tang of RUBBERBANDance Group, among others. Auditions will be held at PACC on Jan. 23. Pre-registration is required by emailing mip@njdte.org.

Background

Since 2010, Pre-MIP has provided advanced young dancers with a unique introduction to the creative process and improvisational skills in the heart of New York City at DANY Studios.

Under the direction of Alexandra Wells, concept and artistic director of Movement Invention Project (MIP), and Nancy Turano, artistic director of NJDTE, a master faculty of dance artists guides participants through a rigorous curriculum of ballet and contemporary techniques, plus collaborative and improvisational explorations.

“Beyond strong technical skills, intelligence, versatility and musicality, a dancer must be curious, open and prepared to make choices at any moment,” Wells said. “Our brilliant, supportive faculty offers the tools and skills necessary for understanding the improvisational languages that are relevant in today’s dance environment.”
