Each year the Long Hill Garden Club makes available a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is a Trumbull resident and plans to continue his/her education in biology, botany, conservation, environmental studies, forestry, horticulture, landscape design, land management or related subjects.

This year’s recipient is Ian McLevy, son Roy and Diane McLevy. He will major in Forestry and Environmental Studies at the University of New Hampshire.

Ian has successfully balanced academic demands with sports, volunteerism and extra-curricular activities. He played Trumbull High School football in grades 9, 10 and 11 and high school track in grades 11 and 12. His community service activities are at the Trumbull Congregational Church, St. Luke’s Community Suppers in Bridgeport, the Fairfield County Irish Festival, and the Gaelic American Club. He also volunteers for CT DEEP at Silver Sands Park in Milford and repaired and rebuilt benches and tables at Beach’s Park in Trumbull.

Ian was selected as Mr. Shamrock 2015 by the Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and was awarded a scholarship. A passion of his is mountain bike racing on Connecticut trails since 2013. His teachers describe Ian as hardworking, reliable, compassionate and friendly.
