The Nichols Improvement Association (NIA), seeks to honor those who have given so much by improving and beautifying its existing veteran’s memorial, located on the NIA green at the intersection of Unity Road and the Hutchinson Turnpike. The plan is to remove the existing shrubbery, place a flower bed, add seating and lighting and install a brick pathway leading up to the memorial. This project is being led by a local Eagle Scout Dylan Hawkes, and some of the landscaping work will be done by scouts.

In order to facilitate this goal, they are running an engraved brick fund-raising campaign. A message of your choice will be engraved on the brick and can include the emblem of a branch of the armed forces. You may choose to honor a loved one who is currently serving or has served or you can purchase a brick and note your family’s involvement in this project.

These bricks will be included in the new pathway which will be installed near the memorial. Alternatively, you could donate a bench which would include a plaque commemorating your generosity. Direct donations of any amount will also be accepted. See the chart below for the cost of various donations.

The completion of the Memorial Beautification project is targeted for Veterans Day, November 2014.
