A local election season in Trumbull is never boring. The race for top office in town continues to heat up as Election Day approaches. First Selectman Tim Herbst, who lost a close race for State Treasurer last November, is seeking a fourth term in Trumbull. Vicki Tesoro, a Democrat representing District 3 on the Trumbull Town Council, is challenging Herbst for the town's top office. Both Tesoro and Herbst visited the HAN Network's Shelton studio recently, as part of our Election 2015 Candidate Conversations. For about two years I served as Trumbull Times editor, covering both the Herbst Administration and Tesoro's work in the community and time on the Town Council. In our conversations, Herbst and Tesoro each answer questions about their accomplishments and plans for Trumbull's future. They also address criticisms leveled at them in the lead up to Nov. 3. Herbst and Tesoro are also asked to say something positive about one another. If you want to see the candidates go head-to-head, a Trumbull first selectman debate will air live on Trumbull Community Television at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Oct. 28. Trumbull Times Editor Steve Coulter will be the moderator. You can watch Trumbull Community Television on Charter channel 194 and Frontier channel 99. Tesoro has been active in Trumbull community service for the last 20 years, particularly in education. She started the underage drinking forum at the high school, helping create TPAUD, which is the Trumbull Partnership Against Underage Drinking organization. She has served on the Town Council for the last four years, representing District 3.Watch Tesoro's interview below:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIpfjkUVCR8 On November 3, 2009, Herbst was elected First Selectman, becoming the youngest elected first selectman in the history of Trumbull’s government at age 29. Before his election as First Selectman, Herbst served as a member and chairman of the Trumbull Planning & Zoning Commission.Watch Herbst's interview below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ozHvU4y3DM The HAN Network, formerly known as Hersam Acorn Newspapers, is the exclusive FCIAC broadcast partner through the spring of 2018.
