Oct. 27-Nov. 2 The fire departments responded to a total of 12 calls in last week. These calls included the following: Three separate brush fires, an unknown type odor in a structure, a request for assistance to the town of Monroe to aid in removing an injured person from the woods, an outside smoke condition investigation, a request for mutual aid to the town of Easton for assistance with a large brush fire, a motor vehicle accident fluid spill, a carbon monoxide alarm activation with no symptoms, and a motor vehicle accident involving a utility pole. Long Hill Fire Department longhillfd.com At 23:58 hours on Oct. 29, the Long Hill Fire Department responded to the Town of Easton to aid in assistance with extinguishing a large brush fire. The Long Hill Fire Department responded with a fully staffed engine and a chief to Easton Fire headquarters to staff their fire station for any additional incoming calls. Crews were soon directed to aid at the brush fire and additional crews were called in from the Trumbull Center Fire Department to staff the Easton station. Long Hill firefighters stretched hose lines and overhauled the burned areas to ensure there were no hot spots. Crews were on scene for over three hours that night at the call. The combined crews from the Long Hill and Trumbull Center Fire Departments sent three engines and two chiefs to aid for a total of 17 members responding. Once the situation was placed under control crews were released from the call to return back to Trumbull in service. Nichols Fire Department nicholsfire.com At 14:03 on Oct. 28, the Nichols Fire Department responded to Route 8 northbound in the area of exit 11 for a reported brush fire. Responding units arrived in the area and began to search the highway for signs of a brush fire. Crews checked the highway both northbound and southbound and found nothing. After the units also checked Route 15 and found nothing, the situation was placed under control and crews were released to return back to service. Trumbull Center Fire Department trumbullvfc.com At 07:12 on Nov. 2, the Trumbull Center Fire Department responded to a Craig Lane residence for an activated carbon monoxide alarm with no reported symptoms. Firefighters arrived on scene and began to meter the house to check for possible elevated reading and any possible hazards. Crews initial investigation found nothing so a secondary metering was performed with an additional meter. After the secondary metering of the structure showed no elevated readings the situation was placed under control and firefighters advised the occupant to change out the detector. Once crews completed their paper work, units were released and returned back to quarters.
