DANBURY — Authorities have arrested a man, charging him with first-degree assault, after a stabbing downtown that left two men injured late Friday night.

The suspected assailant was identified as 29-year-old Jorge Bonilla, according to city spokesperson Erin Henry. Bonilla was taken into police custody  after he was found in a nearby alley, Henry said. Bonilla was also charged with second-degree assault, breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon.

Minutes before midnight, Danbury police were sent to a bar on Railroad Place for a reported stabbing, according to Henry. When officers arrived, they located two men with non-life-threatening "slash wounds," she said.

"Both were conscious and alert and gave statements and a suspect description in regards to the assault," Henry said in an email.

Bonilla was located by police in an alleyway in the area of Main Street and Elm Street soon after. He was arrested without incident, Henry said.

Both victims were taken to Danbury Hospital. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear Saturday morning.

Henry said Bonilla was held on $250,000 bond in the alleged stabbing, and was given a $5,000 bound for an unrelated warrant.
