BRIDGEPORT — A man was fatally shot on William Street Monday afternoon, according to local officials.

The victim was identified as Tyheem Scales, 26, of Naugatuck, said Scott Appleby, the city’s director of emergency management. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital by ambulance but pronounced dead on arrival, Appleby said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim,” Appleby said.

Bridgeport police and emergency medical services personnel responded to the 900 block of William Street after a ShotSpotter alert came in at 2:19 p.m. Monday, according to Appleby. Emergency dispatchers then received additional calls reporting shots fired in the area and a possible shooting victim, Appleby said.

Responding officers reportedly located the victim, later identified as Scales, in a vehicle in a parking lot behind an address in the 970 block of William Street, according to Appleby. He had been shot multiple times, Appleby said. Police initially said the extent of his injuries was “unknown.”

Police are actively investigating the fatal shooting, Appleby said.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting can contact the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-576-TIPS.
