The white stuff continues to fall in Trumbull tonight, coating roads and making for slippery travel.

Residents should avoid traveling if possible, since blowing snow will make for hazardous driving and walking, according to the National Weather Service. Conditions will turn icy later tonight.

A winter storm warning is in effect in Trumbull until 6 a.m. Sunday morning, as a wintry mix is expected into early Sunday morning.

Snow fall is expected to be heavy at times tonight — a total accumulation of 3 to 5 inches may fall — before snow and freezing rain starts late into the night and into the early morning.

The National Weather Service reports that freezing rain is expected between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., with rain after 3 a.m.

The weather has led to the cancellation of all Trumbull Recreation programs Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, there is a chance of rain before 9 a.m., with a high temperature around 44 degrees.
