TRUMBULL — Justin Scheuble has been selected to fill the spot on the Board of Finance left vacant by longtime volunteer Elaine Hammers last month.

First Selectman Vicki Tesoro appointed him Aug. 9, after he had been recommended for the open position by the Trumbull Republican Town Committee.

According a news release from the Trumbull Republican Town Committee, Scheuble is an RTC executive board member and a 2021 Board of Finance candidate. He moved to Trumbull about six years ago and is married with two children. Scheuble is a licensed banker who has worked for People’s United Bank since 2015 and is the owner of CT Downsizing Pros.

He’s succeeding Hammers, also a Republican, who resigned July 15 at age 73 after more than 30 years of public service. In addition to her post on the Board of Finance, Hammers also served on the civil service board and pension board, in addition to other capacities in town.

In a statement, Hammers applauded Scheuble’s appointment.

“I wanted to see someone with banking/financial experience replace me,” she said. “I also felt, when stepping down, it was important to have the next generation with new perspectives and fresh ideas to have a voice, especially as we have so many new families choosing Trumbull to establish their roots. I think with Justin, the seat is in good hands, and it has a responsible vision.”

At the time of her resignation, Hammers said there was no specific reason for her decision to leave the board, other than the timing being right.

“I think 37 years of service is enough,” she said.
