The coming snowstorm has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for Fairfield and New Haven counties for Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

Forecasts call for 2 to 4 inches of snow, starting during the morning rush hour and increasing to levels considered “moderate” to “locally heavy” by mid morning. Snow is expected to taper off to snow showers by the afternoon rush hour, according to NWS.

Accumulating snow will create slippery roads and hazardous driving conditions, the NWS warns, especially during morning and evening traffic.

A Winter Weather Advisory also has been issued for Middlesex and New London counties in central and eastern Connecticut for Tuesday.

Due to the impending snow, the state Department of Motor Vehicles has canceled road tests scheduled for Tuesday.

Visibility may be reduced to one-half mile or less for brief periods Tuesday morning, according to the NWS advisory.
