According to Virginia Imri, who led TCW’s annual scholarship hunt, Michael was the winner of the $2,500 prize on the basis of his dedication to one community effort. His special project was the Connecticut Radio Information System (CRIS). Michael had already been honored in Hartford for completing more than 400 hours of community service hours reading for CRIS, which is a statewide radio station that reaches out to the visually impaired. Michael was an on-air reader for five years.

Besides his volunteer hours at CRIS, Michael was a member of the THS marching band and a prize winning yearbook photographer. He is continuing his education at Central Connecticut State University.
