Town to get Quarry Road state land in magnet school 'land swap' completion

The Town Council will hold a special meeting Thursday night to approve a lease between the state and the Town of Trumbull on a Quarry Road land parcel.

The lease deal completes a border shift between the town and the City of Bridgeport. In exchange for giving up land to build a multi-district magnet school for the city, Trumbull has now won the right to lease a separate Quarry Road parcel. The lease is for $1 for a term of 25 years, with the town having the option to renew the lease twice under the same terms.

Under the lease terms, the town can use the land only as a public park and must call it "Fairchild Memorial Park." Any improvements must be approved by the state and the town agrees to maintain the land in a clean and safe condition, including keeping the land aesthetically pleasing.

In addition, the land must be accessible by the general public and the town may not restrict use of the park to residents.
