Sindy Yang of Trumbull was one of a group of young piano students from across Connecticut who

recently gathered to perform, having placed as winners in the 35th Annual Renée B. Fisher Competition for Young Pianists. The students performed before a large audience in the Winner’s Concert on May 12. Sindy placed second in the High School Division.

Sindy, 15, is a student at Trumbull High School. She began playing piano at the age of six, studying under Mandy Lo. As a young student, she joined the Young Musician’s Festival of the Schubert Club for six years, earning six Gold Certificates and two Gold Cups. At age 13, Sindy was accepted into the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division, majoring in piano. Currently, she studies with Miyoko Nakaya Lotto. She composes and arranges music of various genres for piano and other instruments, including string instruments, harp and voice. When she is not spending time on music, she can be found reading books on topics ranging from opera to psychology.
