Still time to enter young writer's competition, art and talent show
March is Youth Month, and the Easton Arts Council has celebrations in store. The 17th annual Youth Art and Talent Show will be held Sunday, March 13.
The show is open to all local youth from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Easton and the neighboring towns of Redding, Newtown, Monroe, Trumbull, Fairfield, Westport, and Weston.
Youth writers, artists, musicians and performers still have time to enter their work, but the deadline is fast approaching.
The Easton Arts Council believes that all youth should have the opportunity to express themselves creatively and is therefore delighted to provide this opportunity for those endeavors. It encourages all youth to participate, no matter the level of expertise.
The Art Show will be receiving art work on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the library community room. Pre-registration is not required.
Two-dimensional art work must be framed, wired and ready to hang. Sculpture is acceptable. The artwork will be on display from March 1 to April 18. For information email firstname.lastname@example.org, visit the website, eastonartscouncil.org, or call Kathy Davidson at 203-261-7351.
Young Writers Competition
“Your most memorable hometown experience,” real or imagined, is the topic for the Easton Arts Council’s sixth annual Young Writers Competition.
All entries must be submitted to YWC@eastonartscouncil.org no later than Monday, Feb. 29.
Entries may be prose, poetry, play or screenplay. Typed manuscripts are limited to five pages maximum.
Three $25 prizes will be awarded. Entries will be judged in three categories: Elementary school, grades 3-5; middle school, grades six to eight; high school, grades nine to 12. Each entry will be evaluated on originality, quality of writing and interpretation of theme.
The judges will be award-winning Easton writers Elise Broach, Verne Gay and Karen Thorsen. Prize-winning entries will be announced on March 10, and read aloud at the Easton Arts Council’s Youth Art and Talent Show on Sunday, March 13.
A $5 entry fee plus an Easton Arts Council membership — family $30 or youth $10 — is required for all entrants. Family membership includes a professional-quality DVD of the Talent Show and Young Writers Award Ceremony. Submission forms are available at: eastonartscouncil.org.
Submission forms, entry and membership fees should be mailed to EAC, PO Box 142. Easton, CT 06612. For questions, call Karen Thorsen, 203-261-4747.
