The St. Joseph High football team will ride a 61-26 victory over Trumbull High on Thanksgiving into the Class M state playoffs.
Coach Joe Della Vecchia’s Cadets (10-2) defeated coach Bob Maffei’s Eagles (8-3) behind Shane Miller’s four-touchdown day at the Dalling Athletic Complex.
St. Joseph took a 21-0 lead after one period, as Mufasa Abdul-Basir (40 yards), Jordan Vazzano (two yards) and Miller (52 yards) scored the touchdowns.
Trumbull’s Nick Roberts threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Brunetti to make it 21-6 in the second quarter, but the Cadets added two more scores to bring with them a 33-6 lead at the half.
Miller scored on an 18-yard run and Vazzano threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Mark Hirschbeck before intermission.
Trumbull got a lift when Marc Cesare returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a score, but Abdul-Basir scored on runs of nine and 23 yards to bring the score to 47-12.
Miller had an 85-yard run and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Vazzano in the final period.
Cesare had touchdown runs from three and five yards out.
