Coach Joe Della Vecchia’s St. Joseph High football team defeated Fairfield Warde, 47-27, on Friday night to up its record to 8-1 on the season with the FCIAC road win.
Jordan Vazzano passed for 275 yards and five touchdowns against the Mustangs (2-7).
Mufasa Abdul-Basir was first to get on the board with an 11-yard touchdown reception.
Kevin Bortnick made the first of his five PATS and the Cadets led 7-0 after one period.
St. Joseph added two scores in the second quarter — with Shane Miller catching a 30-yard pass for a touchdown and Abdul-Basir finding the end zone on a six-yard reception.
Warde’s Brandon Bisack threw a 17-yard pass to Brian Kerrigan to make it a 21-7 game at the half. Chris Jones had the first of three conversion kicks.
St. Joseph scored twice in the third period to lead 34-7.
Abdul-Basir ran for a 73-yard touchdown and Jack Yerxa returned a fumble 25 yards for another score.
Warde’s Julius Langs-Jones broke the skein with a 43-yard catch from Bisack to close the third quarter.
Vazzano found Lars Pedersen for a 36-yard touchdown and Miller from 66 yards out, before Bisack completed the scoring with a 14-yard pass to Ryan Brown.
