Local artist exhibit, Aug. 15

The theme for this month’s local artist exhibit at Alfas on Naugatuck Avenue in Walnut Beach, is Anything/Everything Coastal. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, Aug.15., from 5-7 p.m., with artists on hand to meet and talk about their work. Arts, crafts, music, dancing and more. The farmers market is also that day at the beach at the pavilion from 4-7 p.m.

Oyster Eve, Aug. 16; Oyster Festival, Aug. 17

The Milford Oyster Festival will be held rain or shine on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Milford. In addition to the main stage entertainment, there will be a craft beer area at Lisman Landing, a car show, children’s stage at Fowler Field, 200 arts and crafts vendors on the Green, amusement rides, cruises, canoe and kayak races, and 30,000 oysters and other food.

Oyster Eve, the festival kickoff event, will be held on Friday, Aug.16, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Lisman Landing. Craft beers, wine, oysters and other food will be available. Bon Jersey, The Ultimate Bon Jovi Tribute Show, will perform, and will also be the main act on the Lisman Landing stage during the festival Aug. 17.

There is a $5 cover charge Oyster Eve, and no entry fee to the Oyster Festival the following day.

The headlining band for this year’s Milford Oyster Festival, Saturday Aug. 17, will be the 1980’s rock and roll band Extreme.

Thunder in the Valley, Aug. 24

The Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps are presenting the 2019 Fanfare: Thunder in the Valley on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Seymour High School, 2 Botsford Road, Seymour.

This year’s competition features the Hawthorne Caballeros, Long Island Sunrisers, Connecticut Hurricanes, and exhibitions by the Caballeros Alumni, Magnificent Brass, Connecticut Alumni, Skyliners and Bridgemen Brass.

Reserved seats are $20 at gate; $18 advance online. General admission seats are $12 at gate; $10 advance online. Online tickets are available at through Saturday, Aug. 17. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the show kicks off at 6:30.

Law class of ‘69 50th reunion, Sept. 2

Jonathan Law class of 1969 50th reunion kicks off on Friday, Sept. 20 with a meet and greet, followed by a school tour and main reunion on Saturday, Sept. 21 and a brunch on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Riverview Bistro, 946 Ferry Blvd., Stratford.

Joseph Barber's Paintings -- A Retrospective, Sept. 4-30

Exhibit of original watercolors, acrylics, and oil paintings by the late New England artist, Joseph Barber will be held at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave.

Wine Trail, Sept. 7

The 11th annual Wine Trail will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 5-9 p.m.

Come sip, savor and stroll through Downtown Milford for an evening of wines, tastings, boutiques and friends at this benefit charity. Proceeds benefit the United Way of Milford.

Program on ‘The Catskills of CT, Sept. 10

The Wepawaug-CT Valley-West Rock Chapter of Hadassah will present a program on "The Catskills of CT" by Dr. Lawrence Wartel on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m., at Woodbridge Library, 10 Newton Road, Woodbridge.

Dr. Wartel's grandparents, Rose and Aaron Greenberg, owned Stucco Cottages Resort in Moodus for more than 50 years. Dr. Wartel himself grew up in Moodus and worked at his family's resort when it was part of a flourishing Connecticut industry. There were more than two dozen similar resorts in the area in the 1940s and 1950s, and summer visitors flocked there from around the region.

Next Stop Thursdays, Sept. 12

Next Stop Thursdays will benefit the United Way of Milford, and will be Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5- 7 p.m., at 1 Railroad Ave.. The Rambling Inn will be rolling into the Milford Train Station. There will be unlimited drinks and light hors d'oeuvres for a cash donation of $25 per person; 15% of the night's proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Milford.

This is a 21+ event.

Beatles tribute band benefit concert, Sept. 21

Trinity Episcopal Church, 1734 Huntington Tpke., in Trumbull, will be hosting a benefit concert Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m., in support of local area food pantries featuring The Penny Lane Band, one of Connecticut’s premier Beatles tribute bands. Come and enjoy a career spanning selection of your favorite Beatles hits, as well as complementary refreshments.
