BRIDGEPORT — The Bridgeport Police Department charged a city man Wednesday with a fatal shooting earlier this month in the P.T. Barnum Housing Complex.

Amheir Noel, 19, of the P.T. Barnum Complex in Bridgeport, was arrested by the Bridgeport Police Department’s gang task force earlier Wednesday on unrelated charges in Milford, according to Scott Appleby, the director of the city’s Office of Emergency Management.

During an interview with police, Noel admitted to shooting Kyle Dear on June 13, Appleby said.

Dear, a 22-year-old from Shelton, was shot multiple times during the incident.

“The murder was said to be in response to Dear’s friends robbing and pistol-whipping Noel,” Appleby added.

Police were called to the complex around 8:30 p.m. that night and found Dear suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police charged Noel with murder and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is being held on $2.5 million bond and will be arraigned in court Thursday.

Appleby commended the work of the lead investigator, Detective Thomas Harper, and all of the detectives who worked on this case.
