Pisces' swim 90 miles
Trumbull Pisces Swimming Association held its annual fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 30 at Hillcrest Middle School pool.
Sixty-nine swimmers participating from age 6 to high school girls.
“We divided the team into three groups with each group having one hour to complete as many laps as possible,” head coach Bill Strickland said.
“It was extremely impressive watching all swimmers swim for an hour straight, even our youngest swimmers made the whole time.
“The Pisces made all coaches and parents who were watching proud to see this accomplishment.”
Swimmers competed for prizes to swim the most laps in their respective groups, and also raised money for the team which had been having to pay to rent pool time for the first five weeks of the swim season due to repair delays at Hillcrest.
“Some of our swimmers had no idea what to swim. All things considered it was an amazing event,” Strickland said after the swimmers combined swam nearly 90 miles.
The team received support of many local businesses and organizations for the Pisces largest fundraising event this year.
“I would like to thanks Vazzy’s of Bridgeport for providing the pizza for all our swimmers,” said Margaret Walsh, organizer of the event. “We had great response from our families for donation of prizes as well as cheering their kids on as they swam and helping them raise money.
“We are also very thankful for the Bridgeport Bluefish, Sound Tigers and Sports Center of Connecticut for donating prizes for our swimmers.
“The kids especially enjoyed the visit from Storm, the Sound Tigers mascot.
“With money collected at the event, and money that has been pledged still coming in, the swim team hopes to surpass the $8,000 mark from this event.”
