Name-your-price membership at Planet Fitness helps local food bank

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and giving back to those in need, Planet Fitness will host a charitable promotion that allows new members to “name their own price” to join, with 100% of the enrollment fees donated to Connecticut Food Bank or Foodshare.

The state-wide initiative will run through Nov. 13 at 29 participating Planet Fitness locations.

New members pay an enrollment fee and then $10 a month. As part of the “Name Your Own Price” to join campaign, Planet Fitness is offering an enrollment fee as low as $5, which will be donated to Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare — two local organizations that share in the mission to provide nutritious food to local people in need.

“At Planet Fitness, we offer a non-intimidating environment where everyone can feel comfortable while working toward achieving a healthier lifestyle,” said Dr. Charles Anderson, chief wellness officer at Planet Fitness CT. “We are thrilled to partner with Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare to help provide nutritious food to those who need it most, especially during the holiday season when there is increasing demand for food assistance.”

Connecticut Food Bank distributes food and other resources to more than 650 local emergency food programs throughout six counties in Connecticut, and Foodshare serves 300 community partners in two counties.

Participating locations will also be collecting non-perishable food items for each of the food banks in its communities.

“Planet Fitness is a great partner for us because they are giving the community the opportunity to help in a very meaningful way, and helping to raise awareness for the growing need for food in Connecticut,” said Nancy L. Carrington, Connecticut Food Bank's president and CEO.  “November is an ideal time to build awareness of the food insecurity faced by more than 520,000 people in Connecticut, however, hunger is an everyday problem in our state. We are grateful to Planet Fitness for their community partnership to help end hunger.”
