McAuley, Smerling lead way

The Next Dimension Gymnastics team started its season strong when the locals competed at the Rhode Island Invitational at the Providence Convention Center from Dec. 7-9.

Leading the optional team, high school junior and Level 10 gymnast Julia Sebben from Monroe won the all-around title and took first place on vault, bars and floor exercise and second on beam.

Her Level 10 teammate from Trumbull, Linda McAuley, had a strong showing placing third in the all-around and also taking second on vault, third on beam and fourth on bars.

Fairfield freshman Jennifer O’Neill led the Level 9 team by earning the vault first-place title as well as second place on floor, third place all-around and fourth on bars.

Also at Level 9, Newtown freshman Karianne Djonne took third place on beam and fifth place on bars.

Monroe freshman Ali Moraveck took second place on vault.

The Level 9 team earned the third-place team award.

Trumbull’s Natalie Smerling had a solid meet at Level 8, earning second place on vault and floor.

At Level 7, the team took home fourth place with standout competitors including” Kate Burns first on vault, Rachel Hooker second on vault, Samantha Markland first on vault, second on bars and all-around, and Ashley Anderson second on vault.

The compulsory level girls (Levels 4-6) also performed well with Levels 4 and 5 winning the first-place team award and Level 6 taking second.

The optional teams head to Florida in January to compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports venue.
