Mary V. Jones, 89, of Crestview, Fla., passed away peacefully at Crestview Manor on Sunday, October 28.

Born in Dothan, Alabama, on April 10, 1923, to Thomas and Irell Walters, she moved to Laurel Hill with her family in the mid-1930s.

She married Raymond Jones in 1943, and moved to Trumbull, Connecticut, where she raised a daughter and two sons.

She attended the University of Bridgeport, where she earned a Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Mary was a reporter and editor for the Bridgeport Post, the Trumbull Times and Parade magazine.

Moving back to Crestview in 1978, she worked for the Pensacola News-Journal and established QuickPrint, a printing and publishing business.

A tireless worker for others, Mary's community service included Epiphany Episcopal Church, the Kiwanis Club, Crestview's Sharing and Caring program and many others. Her accomplishments resulted in her being inducted into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Virginia Jones, and her two sons, Thomas (Chris) Jones and Edward Jones, her sisters Pauline Campbell, Nell Lawson and Jackie Jambor, and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond C Jones.

A memorial service will be held at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Crestview on Saturday, November 3, at 11:00 AM. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Sharing and Caring of Okaloosa County.
