TRUMBULL — One man was injured in a fight at a local supermarket late Friday afternoon, according to police.

Charges against one or more people are expected in connection with the incident, said Lt. Brian Weir, public information officer for the Trumbull Police Department.

Weir said Trumbull officers responded to the Stop & Shop at 100 Quality St. around 4:30 p.m. Friday after multiple 911 calls reported a disturbance. Reports initially said the disturbance resulted from a crash involving a pedestrian, according to Weir.

Responding officers determined two men had become involved in a “face-to-face confrontation” following an argument, according to Weir. The confrontation apparently came to a head when one of the men punched the other after he “grabbed” the arm of a female acquaintance filming the altercation on her cellphone, Weir said.

The punch knocked the other man to the ground, causing him to fall and lose consciousness, according to Weir. He was treated by emergency medical services personnel and transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Weir said.

No other injuries were reported, Weir said.

Officers remained on scene to collect witness information, according to Weir. Preliminary investigation was ongoing as of 8 p.m. Friday.
