Madison students and staff ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’
On Wednesday, Oct. 30, more than 200 Madison Middle School students and more than 40 staff members showed how a Madison Panther R.O.A.R.S by participating in the “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” event. Students showed their support for tolerance and diversity by dressing in school colors of blue and yellow, trading shoes with friends and walking the track for an hour after school.
The event was sponsored by members of the PBIS Ambassadors club, the S.A.D.D. club and Peer Allies club. Inspiring entertainment was provided by band instructor, Mr. Thornton, and more than 40 members of the Madison Middle School band.
This event concluded a month long awareness campaign dedicated to promoting kindness, tolerance, acceptance, and respect for each other. Activities throughout the month included guest speakers from the Anti-Defamation League encouraging students to Go M.A.D. (Make A Difference) and classroom activities encouraging students to A.C.T. (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) against bullying and all destructive behavior.
Observance and activities promoting National Red Ribbon Week, National Stomp Out Bullying day and National Unity Day also took place. Special thanks to, Mrs. Payne, Mrs. Barton, and Mrs. LaMaine, Miss Saunders, Miss Pytlak, and Mrs. Yarmosh for organizing events throughout the month.
