Ron Johnson, a Trumbull native and a St. Joseph High alum, has been named Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Athlete of the Month.

Johnson, a true freshman, is sharing starting goaltending duties for the Western Connecticut State University Colonials men’s hockey team, which competes in the Division II American Collegiate Hockey Association.

The FCA is the world’s largest Christian Athletic organization. Founded in 1954, the FCA has grown to over one million members world-wide.

“As goaltenders, we need to embrace the service to our teams,” said Johnson, who has played in seven of nine games with 146 saves for an 0.8- save percentage. “We are not the recipients of glory [goal scoring]; we must honor the humble tradition of protecting the fort and being the last line of defense,”

“I hope to continue my hockey career for as long as long as God will take me. My family has always been very supportive of my efforts towards hockey, and helped me greatly over the years.”
