The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA girls gymnastics team is starting its 2012-13 competitive season off better than ever, based on its showing at the 2012 Harvest Invitational.

Over 130 gymnasts from six YMCA teams from Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York competed for individual and team honors on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Lakewood-Trumbull Y — a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA.

“The girl’s performance was truly impressive,” Lakewood-Trumbull Y gymnastics recreation coordinator Hayley Foster said.

Foster is the Level 4 and 5 head coach.

“They went out there with confidence, polish, and smiles on their faces,” she said. “There was a great vibe in the gym. Everyone had fun.”

The Level 5 team finished first in the team event and the Level 4 and 7 teams with third-place finishes.

“Competition was close, individually and on a team level,” Lakewood-Trumbull Y Youth sports director Andrew Campbell said. “I am so happy and proud of where they (the athletes) are now. I look forward to seeing how they will finish at the end of the season.”
