FCIAC volleyball pairings

The Darien Blue Wave and Fairfield-Ludlowe Falcons will carry the top seeds into the FCIAC volleyball tournament after finishing the regular season with victories on Friday.

The four FCIAC quarterfinal games were moved to Monday in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to the hit the region early in the week.

The storm will likely be at its strongest on Monday night and during the day on Tuesday, when the quarterfinals had originally been scheduled.

Should the schedule needed to be changed further, updates will be posted here as soon as possible.

Darien, Ludlowe, Stamford and Trumbull are the top four seeds and will host matches at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29.

Darien shut out Wilton 3-0, and completed a perfect regular season at 18-0.

Ludlowe topped McMahon, also in three sets, to finish with a 17-1 record. When the two teams clashed back on Sept. 21, Darien came away with a 3-1 decision, but Ludlowe is unbeaten since with a 14-match winning streak heading into the playoffs.

The Stamford Black Knights rebounded from a first-set loss to defeat the Danbury Hatters 3-1 on Friday, wrapping up the No. 3 seed with a record of 15-3.

The Trumbull Eagles, Greenwich Cardinals and Staples Wreckers all finished the regular season with records of 14-4, and Trumbull earned the No. 4 seed, as well as a home match in the FCIAC quarterfinals, based on their head-to-head wins against Greenwich and Staples.

Trumbull beat both teams 3-2 in back-to-back matches on Oct. 10 and 12.

Greenwich, which beat Staples 3-2 of Sept. 21, took the No. 5 seed, while Staples is No. 6.

Westhill defeated St. Joseph 3-0 to finish 11-7 and jumped into the No. 7 seed. Ridgefield, which is also 11-7, will be the eighth seed.

Westhill, Ridgefield and Fairfield-Warde all have 11-7 records, but Warde was the odd team out, having lost to the other two teams.

Westhill beat Ridgefield on Wednesday and thus took the seventh spot.

Here’s the full scheduled for Monday:
