An Easton volunteer firefighter was killed in the line of duty Monday night on Judd Road when a tree fell on his truck, severely injuring him. He was taken to an area hospital where he died of his injuries, according to reports.

His name has not been released, but he comes form a prominent Easton family of volunteers, sources said.

First Selectman Tom Herrmann said he couldn't say more at this time out of respect for the family but that more details would be available from the Easton Fire Department Tuesday morning. The Easton Police Department said it would release a press release.

Community members have been lamenting the loss through emails, twitter, phone calls and text messages.

"It's so sad," said a local college student who is a friend of the family.
