Cadets tied early in FCIAC football final
New Canaan's Nick Cascione, who had been out with a concussion and wasn't a lock to play tonight, started the FCIAC Championship with an exclamation point. But St. Joseph opened the second quarter with a big fourth down conversion.
After Trumbull turned the ball over on downs inside the New Canaan 30 yard line on its opening drive, Cascione took the field and fired a TD to Kyle Smith.
Trumbull answered back with a drive to the New Canaan one-yard line before a false start and holding penalty moved the Cadets back to the 16 yard line where they turned the ball over on downs again.
On their third drive, the Cadets opened up with their own big passing play, going 41 yards to the New Canaan 10. And moving to the seven for another fourth down as the first quarter ended.
St. Joe's opened the second quarter by converting their first of three fourth down attempts and it was a big one. Jordan Vazzano completed an eight yard pass for a touchdown to Lars Pedersen.
The touchdown and extra point tied the game at 7-7.
