The St. Joseph High boys ice hockey team defeated Guilford, 6-3, in its season opener at East Haven Rink on Dec. 19.

Adam Usinger scored at 4:38 of the first period and Dom DeRosa made it 2-0 with 9:07 on the clock.

Colin Powell and DeRosa assisted on the first tally and Usinger and Tom Schaefer on the second.

The score moved to 5-0 in the second period on goals from DeRosa (unassisted), Ryan Corcoran and Sean Hurley. Powell and Dom Sidorczuk assisted on the last two goals.

Guilford’s Kevin Gaudio found the net twice to bring the score to 5-2 after two.

Sidorczuk, from Powell and Corcoran, made it 6-2 at the 7:14 mark of the final period.

Christian Furce had 14 saves and Dylan Batterson nine for the Cadets.
