13 tips for living better with diabetes

Living with diabetes can sometimes feel like your life is spinning out of control. You have to take medicine on a regular schedule, you can’t eat what you want, when you want it, and you have to visit the doctor more often than most people.

But here are some suggestions to help diabetics get a handle on things from Kelly Carter, a registered nurse and director of diabetes and patient education, and Jessica Ruiz, program coordinator, at the Texas Diabetes Institute; and Judith H. McQuown, author of “1,137 Secrets for Living Well with Diabetes” (Bottom Line Books), who has been living with diabetes for more than 30 years.
