SIMSBURY — A mother bear and her two cubs were rescued from a storm drain in Simsbury this week, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Conservation.
Environmental Conservation police with DEEP were called to a neighborhood on Wednesday. Officers originally thought the bear was using the drain to travel or to take a break from the heat, but they soon realized she needed help.
“When they say it takes a village it sure does,” the Connecticut State Environmental Police said in a Facebook post.
Environmental police, as well as members of the Simsbury Police Department and town crews, removed the storm drain covers and brought in a 10-foot log to help the bears climb out.
“After a little bit of time and some ‘cub calling’ from our bear biologist, the mom and her 2 cubs exited the drain,” the agency said. The family of three then walked off to find a tree in which to lounge.
