Newtown moves up in Connecticut wrestling poll; Xavier holds at No. 1

Xavier, Danbury, and New Milford kept their hold on the top three spots, while Newtown jumped to No. 4 in the latest Connecticut Wrestling Online Top 10 poll.

No. 1 Xavier retained its place at the top following a third-place finish at the War on the Shore tournament in Ocean City, Maryland. The Falcons, the only Connecticut team at the tournament,  had a pair of weight class champs with Raekwon Shabazz at 106 pounds and Anthony Basile at 138.

Danbury finished eighth at the Eastern States Classic in Lake Sheldrake, NY, and held onto the No. 2 spot for the second straight week

New Milford, which traveled to Rhode Island for the John Gorman Tournament and finished as the runner-up behind host Cumberland, held steady at No. 3.

Newtown lost to New Milford in a dual match, but won the Greater Hartford Open and moved up two spots to No. 4.

East Hartford held at No. 5, followed by Warde at No. 6.
