A record 48 teams will clash on the field across six divisions in the CIAC football quarterfinals on Tuesday. Here are some interesting numbers surrounding the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals by the numbers

1 Teams (Newtown) — other than defending state champions — whose last postseason season win was in a state championship game.

3 Defending champions in the playoffs — Cromwell/Portland, Killingly and Maloney.

3 Other teams who reached state championship game a year ago in playoffs — Bloomfield, Fairfield Prep and Rockville. 

3 Teams in Class MM who are 10-0 — Northwest United, SMSA co-op and Thames River.
