Each year, the Long Hill Garden Club makes available a scholarship to a high school senior who is a Trumbull resident and plans to continue his\/her education in biology, botany, conservation, environmental studies, forestry, horticulture, landscape design, land management or related subjects. This year\u2019s recipient is Elise Rimkunas, daughter of Paul Rimkunas and Elizabeth Rimkunas, both of Trumbull. She will attend Purdue University and study Sustainable Foods Farming Systems. Elise has successfully balanced academic demands with extracurricular activities, volunteerism and work. Her extra curricular activities include the UCONN Food Science Career Development Event Competition, in 9th , 10th and 11th grades, the UCONN Horticulture Career Development Event Competition in 11th grade, the Trumbull High School World Language Cooking Contest in 10th and 11th grade, and volunteering at the Agriscience and Biotechnology Center from 9th to 12th grades. She also has been in the Trumbull High School Marching Band, the Thespian Society and the Interact Club throughout high school. Her work background includes the Trumbull Public Library, Grandma Josie\u2019s Candy Shoppe and landscaping and maintaining lawns and gardens. She has also volunteered at the Sport Hill Farm, the Trumbull Band Camp, the Topps Soccer program for children with special needs, the Trumbull Youth Association and been a Math and Language Arts tutor. Her teachers describe Elise as intelligent, hardworking, reliable, polite and eager to learn.
