Southport Brewing Co. (SBC), owned by Trumbull resident and state Rep. Dave Rutigliano, has earned three medals from the World Beer Championship. SBC is Connecticut\u2019s oldest family-owned brewery and has locations in Stamford, Southport, Milford and Branford. SBC's \u201cMambo Bach\u201d received a gold medal from the Beverage Tasting Institute, the company that operates the World Beer Championship. The Beverage Tasting Institute noted that the award winning beer had a \u201cNice vibrancy and flavor and balance that will be great with any food.\u201d SBC's \u201cConnecticut Pale Ale\u201d, the company's first bottled beer, received a bronze medal. The award winning beer was described as having \u201cAromas of toasted nuts, tahini, and edamame with a supple, dry medium body and a tangy, very grain driven finish with leafy greens like hops and earth in support.\u201d Mark Dasilva, head brewer of SBC, said how proud he was of winning this prestigious award, especially for the Connecticut Pale Ale. \u201cI could not be prouder than to have the company\u2019s first bottled beer, brewed right here in Connecticut, and available throughout the state, come away with a medal,\u201d Dasilva said. \u201cIt is a true honor for SBC to be recognized by the Beverage Tasting Institute.\u201d Rutigliano, who is a partner in the restaurant group and also culinary director, serves on Trumbull\u2019s Board of Finance and represents Trumbull\u2019s 123rd district in Hartford.
