Trumbull dance teachers, amateurs compete, donate to Sandy Hook

Professional ballroom teachers Ashley Mokris and Marco Urosevic from the Trumbull Fred Astaire Dance Studio were crowned the American-style dance champions at the recent New England Dancesport Championship held at the Omni Hotel in New Haven.

The couple bested couples from 23 other studios from New England in the waltz, foxtrot, tango and Vienesse Waltz.

Also, the Trumbull studios’ amateur dancers contributed $500 of their prize money to the Healing Through The Arts organization associated to Sandy Hook Relief Fund.

Henry Skoop, owner of the Trumbull studio said that in the near future he and his teachers would be offering a ballroom dancing workshop to further aid the Sandy Hook Fund.

Other Trumbull residents who distinguished themselves in the Dancesport competition in New Haven included Junior Age dance sisters Elizabeth and Olivia Cuevas, Alan Erickson, Samantha Gillis, and Joyce Paci. Also, Joan Blake of Derby, and Monique Iken, Beverly Marr and Olga Shrodi of Monroe.
