Trumbull Farmers Market offers variety of local tastes (SLIDESHOW)

It takes time to grow a farmers market.

Just ask Catherine and Rob Martini who have been organizing the Trumbull Farmers Market located at 1773 Huntington Turnpike since May.

The final market of the season is Thursday, Oct. 15, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and will feature many of this season's most popular vendors, including Boxcar Cantina from Greenwich, Fire Pit Pizza Co. from West Haven, MetroCrops from Bridgeport, Carrot Top Kitchens from Redding and Seasonal Sweets and Catering from Derby.

The local farmers and producers have enjoyed a great season at their new location at the Nichols Improvement Association, selling their organic and locally-sourced goods to customers interested in buying a variety of foods ranging from clams to ice cream to fresh-baked bread.

Two bakers, Wave Hill Breads of Norwalk and Beldotti Bakeries of Stamford, were at the market last Thursday giving customers taste of their respective artisan micro-bakeries.

As for produce, three farmers were present, including Trumbull-based Plasko's Farm, Niantic-based Smith's Acres LLC, and Oxford-based Gazy Brothers Farm.

Away from the farm, and closer to the ocean, Stratford-based Pepe's Cream of the Crop LLC was also present serving the freshest shellfish. And Boxcar Cantina and Fire Pit Pizza provided the hot foods.

For those with a sweet tooth, Seasonal Sweets and Catering was present offering 100% nut-free desserts, teas and other hand-crafted spices, while Milford-based Walnut Beach Creamery was serving up fresh, homemade ice cream. The most local sweet vendor was Debbie's Delights LLC, which is located in Trumbull, and serves healthy desserts such as Paleo Brownies.

Seasonal Sweets is the only nut-free bakery in the state. They offer gluten-free and dairy-free desserts.

Of course, it wouldn't be a farmers market in Trumbull without Nancy Moore, who was selling fresh flowers and plants from Moorefield Herb Farm.

Moore, who previously organized the Trumbull Farmers Market, handed the reigns over to the Marinti family last year, and they've been trying to grow local support.

"We are hoping to continue to get strong community support for the market into the last few weeks of the season," Catherine said.
