Students, teachers thanked for helping hungry families

Twenty-seven fifth grade students enrolled in Trumbull’s Academically Gifted (TAG) Program during the 2013-2014 school year which made a significant difference in the lives of hungry Connecticut families. That is why Connecticut Food Bank presented the TAG Program with the 2014 School Hunger Action Hero Award.

The students were responsible for planning and executing initiatives to alleviate hunger through their “Hunger in Connecticut” project. Through food donations and fund-raising events, the students raised $3,845 as well as 569 pounds of food — the equivalent of 9,700 meals. Connecticut Food Bank is honored to work with these young anti-hunger advocates, many of whom are continuing to fight hunger in their local communities.

Connecticut Food Bank distributes an average of 40 tons of food every business day.
