St. Vincent's Foundation supporters will join #GivingTuesday to encourage spending with a purpose

St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation will join #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring this year on Dec. 1, more than 150 members of the St. Vincent's community will rally behind #GivingTuesday to show their commitment to giving back and providing extraordinary care with compassion to those most in need. #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

St. Vincent's employees, doctors, nurses, patients, supporters, volunteers, and survivors will change their social media profile pictures to images that share their personal inspiration for giving. Called "UNselfies," these photos express messages covering a broad range of emotions, from serious ("Because someone I love died from cancer") to joyful ("We swam because we can") to anger ("We hate liver cancer"), and strength ("Because I am a survivor"). Many will be encouraging their friends and families to support the St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation, which is committed to St. Vincent's historic mission to serve people who are poor and medically underserved.

To help St. Vincent's staff get excited for this year's #GivingTuesday, St. Vincent's hosted a photo shoot complete with fun props, signs, and music. From feather boas and sparkly sunglasses to tiaras and a funky fedora, there was something to help everyone to get in the spirit. St. Vincent's supporters are being encouraged to use the hashtag #StVincentsGives.
